OUR FOUNDER
We Major was founded by Dominique Johnson in 2019 to design curriculum and provide professional development training for after-school programs. The organization has partnered with notable programs such as KIPP NYC, Children’s Aid, Flatbush Development Corp, and WHEDco.
Johnson is a New York State–licensed Teacher for Students With Disabilities (grades 7–12). She has developed curriculum for respected institutions including Encyclopædia Britannica, EL Education, Chicago Public Schools’ Skyline Curriculum, and the New York City Department of Education’s Hidden Voices curriculum.
In 2010, Dominique earned a B.S. in Communications from Northwestern University, followed by a master’s degree in Secondary Inclusive Education from Teachers College, Columbia University, in 2013. She served as a Special Education ELA teacher with the New York City Department of Education before transitioning to a leadership role at the New York City Department of Youth & Community Development (DYCD).
At DYCD, Dominique trained hundreds of after-school program directors and their staff to implement effective academic programming as the Engagement and Instruction Content Specialist. One of her most impactful accomplishments was creating the Evaluation Monitoring System Activity Observation Rubric, which established performance standards for DYCD’s 900+ after-school programs.
Through We Major, Dominique Johnson remains committed to advancing equity in education by empowering educators and enriching out-of-school learning environments for historically underserved communities.
